How wonderful that you and I have such similiarities. I, too, worked for the NYC Bd. of Ed. teaching autistic childrenfor 15 years. I wrote the curriculum for that population, and when I left NY in 1990, that was the same curriculum they were still using at the time.
Also, I went to SJU and earned both my undergrad and graduate degrees there - but those were in learning disabilities and emotional disturbances. Then I took a year and went into SJU Law School, where, although it was intellectually stimulating, I found that politics was just not my cup of tea - as I was never, and shall never be, politically correct. I have always called a spade a spade . I don't know if thats an advantage or a disadvantage to my personality, but it is a part of me, never the less.
So now, I venture forth into a new career of mental health counseling. I plan to work with a specialized niche of adults ( No more kids for me for a while), and then teach the only population I havent experienced yet - college. After that I plan on turning my credits already earned into my PhD. and those which are applicable from this most current Masters, and finish off my PhD. in Clinical Psych. I have met a wonderful group of women here in Florida who are engaged in a group practice for all aspects of counseling. If things work out, then perhaps I will join them, as well as do some freelance work from home. It's a bit of a ways down the road yet, so I wont wish my life away. It will be good to speak with you at the reunion and compare notes. Looking forward to seeing you.
Suzette
